Textile Talk (Moving Mountains)

Moving Mountains is a playable art quilt in the form of a table‑sized chess game, crafted with hand‑dyed cloth, piecing, quilting, painting, and soft sculpture. Created as part of the Ardis James QSOS Scholars Program, the work draws from Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories interviews to explore how quilters talk about mountain landscapes, movement, and home. In this virtual Textile Talk, Dr. Jaleesa Wells shares how she turns oral histories and her own life across the Rockies, Scottish Highlands, and Appalachian foothills into a tactile artwork about migration, memory, and what it means to move a mountain.
